NOTES FROM THE FARM – FEBRUARY

Feb 14, 2023

Here’s what’s been going on behind the scenes over the past month…

Somehow it’s mid-February and we’re gearing up to reopen for 2023 on Wednesday 15th March.

Here’s what’s been going on behind the scenes over the past month…

We are planting our first strawberries which should be ready to pick in May. Who’s excited? We are!

Our ruby red rhubarb is sitting under straw, all toasty warm and getting ready to start popping up in April.

Our field prep for potatoes has gone really well: the fields have been ploughed and a good soil crust has formed, ready for planting at the end of March and early April.

Planning for The Pumpkin Patch 2023 has started (we told you that farming never sleeps!) and this week we’re preparing our cropping plan to make sure we have enough variety for picking. We are also finalising our veg cropping plan. Expect lots of courgettes this summer, all the sweetcorn and lots of lovely broad beans.

We’re also awaiting delivery of a bigger coffee machine because one thing we’ve learnt in the past year is that you guys LOVE your coffee…

Tomorrow Imogen is off on a potato course funded by McCain’s, finding out about the potatoes we grow that end up as McDonald’s fries. We’ll report back on our findings!

We’re also curating a programme of Spring workshops here at the farm. Head to our Events page to book yourself into a Living Door Wreath workshop, a Spring in a Vase workshop or a Mother’s Day unicorn bouquet with Agnes – or a Mother’s Day stationery masterclass with artist Cate Wise. More workshops are being added over the coming weeks so make sure you have signed up to our newsletter to be the first to know.

After three successful Christmases showcasing non-food gifts from local independent businesses, we are also really pleased to be making our pop up space in the café a regular fixture. Stay tuned to hear about who will be joining us for the first six-week rotation – lots of Mother’s Day and Easter themed goodies to browse and buy, whilst supporting local makers and independent brands in Oxfordshire.

Stay tuned also for details of our Children’s Party Packages and a new Little Pickers Club which we will be running on Friday afternoons after school during term-times.

See you all soon!
